This peition was started because of what will come if nothing is done. Yes, something CAN be done! The current development at the intersection of Genito Road and Fox Chase Lane, (west of the cemetery) produces 5073 average daily vehicle trips. The proposed uses will produce 7809 average daily vehicle trips (additional 2736 average daily trips) the proposed pharmacy alone will produce 1146 trips per day! This is NOT including Charter Colony Parkway traffic having direct access to these locations! Charter Colony Parkway at this location, carries 19,000 vehicles per day. Fox Chase Lane is a local street; there are homes on it, within a few hundred feet of the intersection.
The safety of our transportation system should be examined as development is proposed and after 30 years, the circumstances of the area and traffic conditions at these intersections have changed enough to warrant an investigation into outdated zoning for the safety and protection of our residents, visitors, and current buisness patrons. Furthermore, we believe that locating a pharmacy/ retail use with direct access from Charter Colony Parkway, adding 19,000 vehicles per day to Genito Road (11,000 vehicles per day) and Fox Chase Lane will significantly increase the dangerous situation that currently exists and pose additional risk to area residents, their families, and daily commuters.
Therefore we, the citizens of Chesterfield County and other concerned individuals, by signing this petition, are opposing all additional access from Charter Colony Parkway to Fox Chase Lane and Genito Road, are requesting a study of land uses at these intersections in relation to the safety of the intersections, and will ONLY support a pharmacy or any retail use in one of the existing shopping centers; Waterford or Colony Crossing.
