On 12 April 2018 the Southland Museum & Art Gallery was closed indefintely. This decision was made by the Governing body of the museum, Southland Museum & Art Gallery Trust Board Inc, and the CEO of Invercargill City Council.
New information has been produced that shows the Southland Museum & Art Gallery has a NBS rating of approximately 50%, not 34% as previously reported.
The majority of the people of Southland want the Museum opened again, the museum is an important icon and hub of Southland, generations of children and adults from Southland and beyond have enjoyed for over 100 years.
