This petition is to open the eyes of lawmakers in Massachusetts. There are way too many Non-Violent offenders serving heavy maximum and repeat offender sentences due to drug related problems. There is severe overcrowding and Massachusetts can no longer afford to house the inmates they have. They have shut down at least 3 prisons this year, and have laid off employees to try and fix the budget crisis. I believe they need to start reducing sentences given prior to the present time, and any future sentences for drug related felony charges. They are having hearings reviewing sentences for drug related sentencing, but have left out the drug addicts who do smaller crimes to fund their drug habit. Massachusetts has also cut tons of funds for methadone clinics and treatment centers. They are not helping these drug addicts to recover, they are only housing them in prisons, thus raising prison overcrowding to the max. If you agree that Massachusetts should pass a bill lowering sentences for drug addicts, and repeat offenders due to drug related issues. Please sign this petition today.
