1. We need to accept more immigrants. According to Statistics Canada, between 1991 and 2001, there has only been 1,830,680 immigrants. That works out to be 183,068 immigrants per year. There are approximately 230,000 deaths per year in Canada, and we also have a declining birth rate. Thus, we need to accept more immigrants into Canada to maintain and grow our economy.
2. There needs to be a better process for recognizing foreign credentials. Many immigrants think that when they come here, they can work as a doctor, etc., but once they arrive, it is often the case that they cannot. We should create an exam for all professions that require post-secondary education. Immigrants must pass this test in order to work here, and if they do pass, their degree(s) must be legally recognized.
3. The time and money to immigrate here must be reduced. Immigration fees can be a burden on people, especially if they are from a poor country. We believe that immigration fees should be cut in half. We also believe more people should be hired to review applications in order to significantly reduce the waiting time.
