We as Archaeologists and Heritage workers of the world demand the immediate release of the archaeologist Susanne Osthoff and her Iraqi driver, as well as all other hostages taken and held against their will. This act does nothing other than highlight a cruelty and evil that is at odds with both the people and the religion you claim to act on behalf of. Many of us do not agree with the presence of foreign forces in Iraq, but by your actions you succeed only in extending the time they remain there, rather than shortening it.
This is a heartfelt plea to look deep into your hearts and see that the capture of archaeologists and aid workers is not in the best interest of Iraq, to release them shows true compassion. However you see yourselves, we once again ask the release of Susanne, her driver and all other men women and children who you hold.
Archaeologists work only for the past, and are apolitical, you have picked the wrong target, she was there to help the people, not support the government. We hope you understand the meaning of true mercy.

Archaeologists and aid-workers are probably the westerners least supportive of the American occupation. This kidnapping only makes it harder to work constructively towards an end to U.S. imperialism.
