SHASHI JOSHI STILL MISSING

There is still no trace of Shashi Joshi who was taken to Bihar and kidnapped last month. Shashi Joshi, a resident of Navin Nagar in Saharanpur district (native of Garhwal, Uttaranchal), is a budding singer who has sung several songs in Garhwali and Bhojpuri films and performed many stages program with famous Hindi Singer Sonu Nigam, Shan & Sandhya Bajpeye and also with Narender Singh Negi (in Garhwali) & Gopal Matpal(in Kumauni). She is very talented female singer and recently sung 3 songs on Garhwali Album PREET PAILLY PAILLY which was launched by NAM Music Company on 4th October 2005.

She was taken to Khagaria in Bihar on September 20 where she was scheduled to perform at a function on September 23. The programme was organised by a lyricist Rajesh Premi who accompanied Shashi to Khagaria. Shashi was allegedly kidnapped from there.

According to police sources, Shashi telephoned her brother Deepak who lives in Delhi on September 22 and informed him that her programme was going to be a big hit and that her posters were all over the township. Incidentally, Deepak was scheduled to accompany Shashi for the programme but opted out at the last minute due to a family functions.

After this phone call, there was no word from Shashi. On September 30, Rajesh Premi, who had organised Shashis programme in Bihar, called up her brother to say that he would not send Shashi back. "Jo karna hai woh kar lo magar main tumhari behen ko wapas nahin jaane doonga (Do whatever you can, but I will not let her go back)", he reportedly told Deepak.

Sensing trouble, Deepak then lodged a complaint with the Shakarpur police station in Delhi about his sister having been kidnapped. A team of the Delhi police, along with Deepak, went to Bihar and traced Rajesh Premi. However, within hours of his arrest, Premi suffered a massive heart attack and died in police custody even before he could reveal where he had kept Shashi captive.

The team returned to Delhi and Shashis whereabouts are still not known.
A senior police official of Saharanpur said, "We are worried because Shashi was a celebrity of sorts in Saharanpur but there is little we can do in because the case is formally registered with the Delhi police. If investigations are pursued aggressively, Shashi can be traced in Bihar."
