Requiring Labels on all Food Products

Action:
The Food and Drug Administration should require specific labels on all food products, stating whether or not there are animal derieved products in the ingredients. This petition proposes that there be different types of labels on each product stating if they are:
Vegan
A vegetarian who eats plant products only, especially one who uses no products derived from animals, as fur or leather.
Vegetarian
One who eats no meat or fish.
Omnivore
1: A person who eats all kinds of foods.
2: An animal that feeds on both animal and vegetable substances.
A simple system using different colors of stars on labels could identify if foods contain animal products. For example: a green star could indicate vegan products, a yellow star could identify vegetarian products and a red star could indicate omnivore products. This would make identifying vegan/ vegetarian/ omnivore more efficient and less misleading for consumers.
Arguments:
While health problems are on the rise because of the escalating obesity of the American population, there is increasing evidence that a vegetarian diet can prevent disease and assist in weight management.
This would assist certain types of diabetics, those with lactose intolerance, high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol and others that monitor their intake because of health concerns.
The vegan and vegetarian population is growing more and more each day as people start to follow their beliefs and/or become more health consious.
It increasingly becomes harder for vegans/vegetarians to shop in regular grocery stores because of the almost endless list of animal derieved ingredients. Many have to go to a health food store just to find products with labels stating whether it is vegan or vegetarian.
Current food labels don't clearly state that many of the ingredients are derived from animal products and a it is difficult to maintain a listing of all animal ingredients.
It is difficult, time consuming and inefficient to shop for completely animal free food products.
The following is a list of Animal derieved Ingredients. Demonstrating the difficulty shopping, with an average size grocery list, because of the cross-referencing.
