Restore the extra curricular activities funds to the 2006-2007 school district budget

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the elimination of funds for extra-curricular activities from the 2005-2006 Oswego City School District Budget. The elimination of these funds has created serious problems for programs in the arts and inter-scholastic athletics, which were at one time nationally renowned programs and which now are seriously imperiled by these unwise budget cuts. We recognize that there are other areas in which appropriate cuts could be made that would not seriously impact a child's school experience. We expect fiscal responsibility from our Board of Education and Administrators, and remind you that this school district exists for the benefit of our children ONLY.

By signing this petition, we expect the Administration and the Board of Education of the Oswego City School District to do the following prior to the adoption of the proposed budget on April 18, 2006:

1. Fully restore funds to the 2006-2007 school district budget for extra-curricular performing arts, interscholastic athletics, technology and other extra-curricular activities and services which were eliminated from the 2005-2006 budget.

2. To ensure the integrity, continuity and success of these programs, we call for a position of Director of Arts using an existing staff position, with a stipend not to exceed $8,000 or 10\% of gross salary to develop and advocate on behalf of these programs.
