Return Gibsons Highway to 4 Lanes

Anyone driving through Gibsons at the same time as a ferry arrival, has noticed significant detrimental affects since Gibsons Way was changed from a four-lane highway to a two-lane highway. The corner of North Road, School Road and Gibsons Way is a bottleneck of vehicles attempting to merge into one lane of traffic, with frustrated drivers attempting to cut in, or turn left under unsafe conditions, and it is just a matter of time before there is a major crash at this intersection. It is very unfortunate that our visitors arriving from the hustle and bustle of the Lower Mainland, expecting to come to our beautiful, peaceful Sunshine Coast for some down time, are immediately faced with a big city-like traffic jam!
While we appreciate the need for safe bike lanes, the current amount of space dedicated to these lanes is unnecessary, especially considering the lack of their use to this point.
Residents trying to escape the chaos that is Gibsons Way are using Reed Road to get around, however this is mainly a residential area which is not designed to handle the amount of traffic currently using this as a main thoroughfare.
In consideration of the fact that these perilous conditions did not exist before cutting our highway back to two lanes when we had excellent flow of traffic, we ask that the Ministry of Highways return Gibsons Way to four lanes.

The decision to reduce the lanes to two was a poorly thought out plan that was not supported by local businesses on Gibsons Way. One of the primary objectives, safety, was not achieved. Gibsons Way in more dangerous now than it was previously.
