Save Americorps

AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our countrys critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment.
The AmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) is a for 18-24 year olds that Strengthens communities while developing leaders through direct, team-based national and community service.

On February 6, 2006, the CEO of the Corporation for National Service released a statement regarding the President's proposed budget for the fiscal year of 2007. It included the following:

"For AmeriCorps*NCCC, this budget requests only $4.9 million, which is intended to cover the cost of closing our campuses."

THEREFORE, we hereby voice our support for the continued implementation of the Americorps NCCC program, recognize it's importance to our communities and to America, and urge Congress and the President to continue granting appropriate levels of funding to allow it to continue to function as it has in the past, through 2007 and beyond.
