Save Dana

We, your L word fanisode writers, L Word show fans, and supporters implore you. We know this is your show. We know that you will do what you feel best for it. However, Ms. Chaiken, this is a mistake. Taking Dana out of the show at this point can do nothing but hurt the fans and shorten the shows screen life.
With your writing team, you have drawn us into the wonderful world that youve created. We love these characters as dearly as we love our friends. In many ways, we feel they are an extension of our friends. And, last night, we watched one of our friends slip into the here after alone. We understand and respect you for wanting to bring breast cancer to the forefront of a younger audience. We admire the honesty and dignity the writers gave to Dana in her handling of this tragic decease. And we will never forget the brilliant job Erin Daniels did portraying this dynamic character. However, none of us want Dana to die. Especially alone. That was just wrong on your part. That is going to cause so much pain and damage, it will change the characters forever, especially Alice, who didnt get to say good-bye.
This entire season, for many of us fans, has been disillusioning to say the least. Many fans have actually been turned off to the show from the characters suddenly being very out of character. For instance, Tinas blatant disregard for anyones feelings but her own. Helenas sudden interest in everyones feelings. Shane, the commitment fearing stud to husbandly fully committed individual. Alice from completely independent, strong woman to wimpy, eccentric stalker. You get the idea. Ms. Chaiken, fans everywhere are going so far as to cancel their subscriptions. Even the stars of the show are not happy with the way this happened. Doesnt all of this hint that this may not have been such a good idea after all?
Earlier this season, you gave the fans an unprecedented opportunity. You gave us the chance to write a real L word script. Something no other show has had the courage to do. And we have responded in kind with well over two hundred submissions over four five scenes so far. We love this show. We dont want to see it go down as a failed groundbreaker any more than you do. But, with the betrayal that so many fans feel this season, it seems to be heading in that direction. But you CAN stop it.
At the end of season two, you had Bette passing the baby around. When Tina was mentioned, Bette said something to the effect of Tinas in recovery. We all know how rough that birth was. What if, because of internal injuries, Tina had to be rushed into emergency surgery? She could wake up, wondering whats going on. She recalls the weird dream she had to Bette and the girls, who are all standing around her, crying with joy. You would have gotten your point across with Danas death, and your message about breast cancer awareness. We would have our beloved friend Dana Fairbanks back. And all would, once again, be well in the L World. And, you could pay homage to the fans that support all of your ventures by producing the show that we wrote as episode one.
Ms. Chaiken, we ask that you consider these ideas.
