Save Dansbury Depot Petition to the Commissioners

Petition Summary and Background: As a result of a fire, the historic Dansbury Depot on Crystal Street in East Stroudsburg is slated for demolition. The demolition permit is effective Wednesday, July 21,2010.

Action Requested: We, the undersigned citizens, hereby request the Monroe County Commissioners to authorize their solicitor to take action on our behalf to temporarily suspend the demolition of Dansbury Depot. We request that the county solicitor file an emergency injunction for relief with the Monroe County Court of Common Pleas, and that a temporary stay of the Demolition permit be issued on the following grounds:

1. Public Notice and Due Process: We request the opportunity to conduct a review of public records to insure that proper public notice and due process was adhered to in this matter, including a review of public meeting agendas and minutes, applications and permit procedures through authorizing agencies, including DEP, the Borough, and the PA Historic Commission, and the demolition plan.

2. Environmental Concerns: We request the opportunity to conduct a thorough environmental review of the current demolition plan to insure public health, safety and welfare, especially regarding potential air borne contaminants including heavy metals and asbestos.

We wish to make it clear that the undersigned request temporary relief in the form of a 30 day stay of the existing demolition permit, on the above grounds. It is the intention of the undersigned citizens to obtain legal counsel to assist with the review.The assistance we request of the Commissioners of Monroe County is of a temporary nature only, to allow us time to obtain and review pertinent documents, and retain and consult with counsel.
