Montrose Storm Pond, Highwood Park, Vista Mirage, Sunshine Lake
On June 23rd in Mayor Snodgrass’s Online YouTube update, the Mayor announced that the town would no longer be mowing or irrigating the grass areas around Montrose, Highwood Park, Vista Mirage, or Sunshine Lake Storm Ponds / Lakes except for mowing 3 ft on either side of the sidewalks.
Tall grass and weeds create hazards to residents and contribute to an unkempt look and feel to a neighborhood. It can also harbor trash and hazards, which can be dangerous to neighborhood residents, pets and children. Pests are also more comfortable in these overgrown conditions, such as mice and insects (mosquitoes), and an overgrown, un-irrigated lot can become very dry in the heat of summer and is a potential fire hazard.
The Mayor also stated that; “These ponds are being maintained for a visual appearance only”. Children and adults of all ages frequent these areas not only to roller blade, bike, jog and walk their pets, but also to fly kites, play catch, lacrosse, kick soccer balls, picnic and enjoy the company of neighbors and friends. These pond areas are a family-oriented environment, that provide healthy outdoor recreation for all ages to enjoy.
