An attempt to take over the Central Institute of Arts and Crafts is being made by the Arts Council and all concerned citizens need to join hands to save this historical art school of Karachi.

The situation is very urgent as the Secretary of the Arts Council( AC) , Mr Ahmed Shah has been stepping up his campaign to take over the Central Institute of Arts and Crafts.

CIAC is a historical art school of the city which was founded in 1966 and has been housed on the second floor of the Arts Council since.
This citys oldest not- for- profit art educational institution is registered under the Societys Act 1860 and has been operating as an autonomous body by electing its own Board of Directors by a general membership. It has given Pakistan thousands of artists and designers.

From May 2010 onwards the Arts Council has employed underhanded tactics to create hurdles in the working of CIAC which includes:

-Demolition of reception and library of the CIAC to construct an elevator shaft without consulting or discussing and forcing its evacuation.

-Damaging CIAC electricity cables and, willfully blocking its Electrical Distribution Box despite the fact that a letter was sent to The Arts Council informing them this could be hazardous for the faculty and students of CIAC.

-Preventing the entry of new candidates into the premises of Arts Council (and CIAC) which has discouraged new admissions since May 2010.

-Intimidating Board Members, Staff and Principal of CIAC. The cars of Board Members and Administrator are no longer allowed to enter the Arts Council premises.

The latest development which is the most serious is now the Arts Council has begun to directly interfere in the internal matters of CIAC by using two recently dismissed faculty members of CIAC to mislead a handful of students with lies and rumors, to carry out protests.
This small group of protesting students, not more than a dozen or so, from a student body of 70 students are patronized by the Arts Council that has provided them with chairs, carpets and regular lunch. Mr Ahmed Shah continues to address these students regularly to incite them to raise slogans against CIAC.
This disruption in the internal affairs of CIAC has prevented the students from working on their Final Year thesis and the school from carrying out the scheduled painting of the studios and installing new equipment for the computer lab.
The management and Board of CIAC has not yet taken any strict action against these protesting students because doing so would further disturb the Final Year students and put their academic careers in jeopardy.

Please sign this petition and SAVE CIAC and the academic careers of 70 students.
