RE: The Suspension of the Applied Photography Program at Wascana Campus in Regina

We, the undersigned, believe that the Applied Photography Program at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology is a worthy and integral part of the photographic industry in Saskatchewan and that cutting the program would be misguided. The reasons given for the program cuts were low-enrollment and job availability. This year we had 40 applicants, in a competitive entry system, vying for only 9 available spots. Many past graduates are working in the industry both across Saskatchewan and around the world.

Current students, recent graduates and hopeful future students of the Applied Photography Program are devastated. Professional Photographers are simply bewildered and concerned that the impact on their businesses will be seen in the quality of up-and-coming photographers and assistants without the qualifications to maintain the integrity of the industry.

We hope that SIAST officials will see the value in maintaining the Applied Photography Program as a vital part of the growth of business and industry in Saskatchewan.
