Save the Golden Gate Library for all patrons

As a patron of the Golden Gate Library in North Oakland, I am opposed to the proposed budget cuts that will result in the reduction of the public library services, hours of operation and staff. The Golden Gate Library serves not only the Oakland community but also the communities of Emeryville, Berkeley, Richmond, Alameda and patrons visiting from beyond Alameda County.
The proposed reduction of services, hours of operation and staff at Golden Gate will destroy the community center the Golden Gate Library has become for schools, neighborhood children, teens, adults, the elderly, the disabled, people without computers and unemployed adults looking for employment as well as new and long existing community group activities.
The Oakland Public Libraries account for only 3\% of the total budget and yet represent a valuable and inexpensive community resource for all its patrons and for every city resident. By signing this petition, I urge Oakland City Council to oppose any and all reduction of services at the Golden Gate Branch. I am also urging the Mayor and City Council of Emeryville to take action to help keep the Golden Gate Library operating without any budget cuts.
