Save the Iranian Children

The Islamic Republic of Iran once again demonstrates its contempt for human rights by sentencing two more teenagers to death. Even though Iran has signed a convention about both the civil and the political rights of minors, the government still continues their barbaric justice system. Alone in 2004, 59 people were executed, and since 1990, 18 minors have been executed. The reasons for executions vary. People get hanged either because of their sexuality, ethnic background, religion believes or some times even on random arrests.

Not content with the merciless execution of the sixteen year old Atefeh Rajabi, the Iranian authorities have also executed Ali M, Morteza F and Milad B all of whom are under the age of eighteen. The reason for the recent execution of 17 year old Mahmoud A. and 18 year old Ayas M. was the fact that they were homosexual.

According to Article 37 of the International Human Rights (Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1989), execution of children is prohibited.

Therefore we, express our unreserved condemnation of these executions, and call upon human rights organizations to pressure the Iranian government to stop these barbaric acts even more.
