Save the Nassau County Mounted Unit

I would like to start by stating that at this moment there is a lawsuit pending against the Nassau county mounted unit. Last year at a rally Nicolas Morgan was a victim of an accident. While the mounted unit was patrolling this event he fell and was stepped on by one of the officers horses. This was not done intentionally nor was this a case of police brutality. At this moment he is presently trying to shut down the Nassau County Mounted Unit. How many of you have gone to the coliseum and allowed your children to pet these majestic animals? Well at the moment if he succeeds they will be in danger. I know for a fact that when one of these animals is ready to retire they are released to Sands Point. Where they lead a wonderful life. They are well cared for both during the service and after retirement! If the mounted unit is completely shut down Sands Point will not be able to accommodate all 16 horses. Being that these horses are specially trained they will not be able to released to the public either. This will leave only one choice, euthanasia. He tries to state that the officers and horses are not properly trained. Well that to is a lie. My father personally trained these horses for 23 years! He was a dedicated employee and his passion was these animals. As well as the civil employees that presently care for them. I have come to know both the cops and the hostlers. They are all wonderful people all with families. Their jobs to are presently at stake. These cops and their horses have proved many times that their worth on the police task force. They all have the proper and extensive training before they begin their duties as a mounted officer. On many occasions these horses were used to patrol rallys, concerts, and events that were unable to accommodate a squad car or a police motorcycle. The horses are living beings, they know enough to avoid danger for both the riders and the population it patrols. No car or motorcycle can safely maneuver its way through a crowd where these horses can. Over the years that it has been in service there has been few accidents, that is more than you can say about cops in cars or on motorcycles. They have saved lives and never taken them. What I ask is for you to sign this petition so when the time comes we can show the world that our officers are doing a good job and belong in our society. Thank you very much!
