Save the Oldest Dutch Reformed Church on Staten Island!

The 'Dutch Reformed Church on Staten Island has been a fixture in Port Richmond since 1715 and a burial place for early settlers since the late 1600s. It is the oldest church building on Staten Islands North Shore and second oldest on the Island. The church, Sunday school building and cemeteries are currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Reformed Church on Staten Island has requested NYC Landmark designation. This designation would prevent demolition and requires more oversight when construction is attempted nearby. The National Register is more symbolic than protective in scope.

With the increased uncertainty over the fate of the adjacent property, Farrell Lumber, a pending re-zoning study for the nearby waterfront in Port Richmond, the Reformed Churchs congregation URGES The Landmarks Preservation Commission of New York City to designate the property in total as a NYC landmark.
