The cellular telephone company, T-MOBILE is proposing a plan to erect an ILLUMINATED TELECOMMUNICATIONS FLAGPOLE on a RESIDENTIAL LOT in Southfield Community Association next to and owned by Burke Nursery and Garden Center. (3141 West Ox Road)
We are opposed to this plan for many reasons: Its UGLY and INDUSTRIAL LOOKING. It is a 100' pole illuminated 24/7 under the guise of being a "flag pole". An 8 foot fence would surround the base components, a footprint equaling 1050 square feet. The pole is 42 inches wide, tapering to 28 inches at the top. It would be an EYESORE visible from all surrounding neighborhoods.
Secondly, NEED HAS NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED. The area has adequate service from competing carriers. The pole would serve commuters traveling on West Ox Road.
Thirdly, CONSTRUCTION OF A CELL POLE IS NOT PERMITTED by Southfields Homeowners Association PROTECTIVE COVENANTS.
The USE OF THE LAND WOULD CHANGE. The lot has been part of the Southfield community for almost 40 years and is zoned residential. A change in use would be precedent setting.
T Mobile Microwave CELL POLE IS OUTDATED AND INADEQUATE. The proposed increase in service area is negligible. New, effective, more expensive, smaller technology is available.
QUALITY OF LIFE and PROPERTY VALUES are affected by having a cell tower in your neighborhood. Envision this "flag pole" illuminated every day in someone's back yard or across the street
The ELECTROMAGNETIC cell pole and base equipment are HAZARDOUS, an ENDANGERMENT and NUISANCE in our community. Children, neighbors, and Burke Nursery customers are NOT SAFE so close to these hazards.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the Fairfax County Board of Planning and Zoning not to accept the T Mobile application and subsequent erection of the T-Mobile cellular tower as proposed. Please say "no" to this plan.
