We the residents of counties and parishes along the banks of the Pearl River petition to shut down the Bogalusa paper mill from now and into perpetuity. It is apparent the Bogalusa paper mill has continuously discharged into the Pearl River, for far too many years, solid waste and toxic liquid waste endangering the ecosystem and estuaries surrounding the Pearl River. During the week of August 7, 2011 through an undetermined end date, the Bogalusa paper mill apparently discharged toxic liquid waste into the Pearl River at a discharge site near Bogalusa killing all or most aquatic organisms in its path. Furthermore, the signatories of this petition request a full investigation by local, state and federal authorities as to who is responsible for any illegal discharges of toxic waste into the Pearl River with full intent to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

Our family owns a camp on the river. We had no idea of the spill untill now, 8-16-11. We all swam in the river, children included. Everybody knows kids swallow water they swim in. I can only hope this doesn't cause any of us to have cancer down the road.
