According to Reach Out, the publication from the National Strategy for Action on Suicide Prevention 2005-2014, more awareness about suicide prevention is strongly recommended.
It is also argued that information about how and where to get help should be readily available to anybody thinking of taking their own lives. Yet there is no visible evidence that the Government is doing anything to address these important issues in a meaningful way. The strategy above has lots and lots of objectives to tackle this tragic problem yet there seems to be very little real and effective action from them or any one else.
At the very least there should be a national informative advertising campaign to educate everyone, especially those most at risk, about the issues around suicide and how people can quickly access professional help. This campaign should cover all spectrums of the media so that it reaches everyone, and it should be the start of a concerted effort by our Government to tackle once and for all this ongoing tragedy. As well as lobbying for this ad campaign we want to see, in the very near future, this campaign supported by classes on suicide included in the curriculum of every secondary school in the land.
If you agree that our Government should take this horrendous problem more seriously and start an effective advertising campaign to educate more people about suicide and at the same time reduce the stigma attached to suicide as well as start to include classes on suicide in our secondary schools as soon as possible then please sign this petition.
