Speed Limit on Lake Winnipesaukee

There is a group trying to set a speed limit on central New Hampshires Lake Winnipesaukee. It calls for a 45MPH limit during the day, and 25MPH after dark. This is completely absurd, because most boats over about 26 feet cannot maintain planing speed under 25MPH. The group states that they do not want to rid of "offshore" or "Go-fast" boats, but the fact of the matter is, these boats cruise at about 45-60MPH, which would put it out of the question for use on Winnipesaukee.

In most cases, speed wasnt the cause of an accident on the water, rather drinking and lack of knowledge was.

If there was a speed limit set, the local economy would suffer. Most marinas cater to offshore boats. Because of the speed limit, owners would have to find and without those sales, they would go out of buisiness due to lack of sales.

It is simply wrong to impose a speed limit on Lake Winnipesaukee. Not only would it hurt the local economy, and drive people away, but it is also unnecessary.
