Corporate investors are planning on invading the natural beauty of the Stawamus Chief Mountain peak, located in Squamish B.C, Canada.
Plans for a 15 tower high-speed gondola was proposed to the Provincial Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection in the spring of 2004. This gondola would transport 880 people an hour to the top of the 2nd peak of the Stawamus Chief, which translates into hundreds of thousands every summer.

Since the 1960s, the Squamish area and the Stawamus Chief has been one of the worlds leading rock climbing areas, attracting climbing enthusiasts from all over the globe. The summit is currently reachable by scaling the vertical walls, or hiking the steep trail up the side of the mountain. Either of these routes brings a sense of accomplishment and rewards the climber with a beautiful view of the valley and ocean inlet.
Lets not let that moment of topping-out be spoiled by reaching over the edge to find a new Starbucks location! The thousands of daily visitors would crowd the mountain top, trampling the delicate vegetation. They would pose a safety hazard to the climbers below as garbage, rocks and sticks would inevitably be knocked over the edge of the cliffs.
Currently, the Stawamus Chief is regulated by the province's 1997 Park Management Plan, which prohibits mechanical lift access in the area. To overturn this management plan, the developers must show that they have broad public support for the proposal.
Lets show them that they do not have that support!
We call on B.C premier Gorden Campbell and the B.C Provincial Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection to stop this development in its tracks.
