WE REQUEST THAT ANSAR MAHMOOD (AGE 26) NOT BE DEPORTED TO PAKISTAN. WE WANT HIM TO BE RELEASED FROM THE FEDERAL DETENTION CENTER AND FREE TO RETURN TO HIS HOME IN HUDSON, NY.
Ansar Mahmood is a 26 years old Pakistani with a valid green card. He was arrested shortly after 9/11 under suspicion of being a terrorist. He was immediately found to have no connection whatsoever with terrorism. However when his apartment was searched it was found he had helped fellow Pakistanis whose visas had expired find an apartment, job and car. Under the advice of his appointed attorney Ansar pled guilty to harboring illegal aliens. He was sentenced to time served plus five years probation and he became subject to deportation. He has now been in the Batavia Detention Center outside of Buffalo, NY since January 2002 and is being threatened with deportation, which will result in very serious economic hardship for him and his family.
Ansar's Defense Committee is talking with local and national politicians to support Ansar's case. Community organizers are guiding us to develop our action plan. We need your support to stop Ansar's deportation. Please sign the following petition.
