A Message for Senate and House Democrats:

We the undersigned are outraged at the destruction of utility rate-payer protections by Senate and House Democrats when they voted to repeal the Public Utility Company Holding Act (PUHCA) as a provision of recent energy legislation.

These protections, enshrined in the Public Utility Holding Company Act (PUHCA), are a cornerstone of the New Deal, which until recently demonstrated the soul of Democratic Party principles.

The abandonment of these ideals by our elected representatives is an intolerable betrayal of Democratic Party voters. We demand that immediate action be taken by all elected party representatives and party leaders to rectify this situation by ensuring that any such provision that weakens the PUHCA be stripped from energy legislation currently under consideration in Congress.

We, the party's members, voters and financiers, are watching this vote to determine whether or not the Democratic Party still represents the working people of America. It is your duty, as elected representatives, to act in the best interests of your constituents. Failure to ensure our rights in this regard is an untenable breach of that sacred agreement.
