Student Debt Alert

A college degree is practically a necessity these days. With students forced to borrow more and more to pay for college, average student loan debt has more than doubled over the last decade. When debt becomes the only way to pay, some students avoid college altogether, while others are financially crippled after they graduate.
The US Department of Education is rethinking the rules for student loans. Last week, over 400 students made a public comment about the need for affordable college funding. We will take these comments to the Orlando hearing on November 3. But we want to have the support of thousands more students to demonstrate just how much we are paying attention to the issue. Send the email below to tell Margaret Spellings, the Secretary of Education, that you are paying attention.
The Department of Education CAN make loans easier to pay back!

Dear Secretary Spellings,
Students are forced to borrow too much to pay for college, resulting in deep loan debt, increasing work while in college and limited career options after graduation..
The US Department of Education can reduce the burden of student debt by adopting five changes that will make loan debt more manageable.
Thousands of us are paying attention to this issue as your rulemaking unfolds. Please make student loans more affordable!
