Students and Teachers of Texas

We, the high school students and teachers of Texas, wish that the TAKS be administered only to the 11th graders in high school. We believe that the 11th graders should be administered 4 tests based on math, science, reading/writing, and history. We believe that 9th and 10th graders should be exempt from these tests until 11th grade, when they would be required. If a student passes the TAKS tests in 11th grade, then no more should be administered to them. However, if a student fails a test in 11th grade, they must be required to test again at a later date. Students in 8th grade and below should still be required to take all TAKS tests given.

The reason for this is because the high school students are being forced to take basically the same test, year after year until 11th grade, on the same material, especially reading/writing. Therefore, if students were only tested in 11th grade on their comprehension of the four subjects math, science, reading/writing, and history. By doing this, the state would save time and money, as well as having less tests to grade.

Basically...

If a student passes all their TAKS tests in 11th grade, they will not be required to test again.

If a student should fail one or more TAKS tests, they will be required to test on those subjects again until they pass.
