The College is planning to build a Multi-Purpose Building which will function as a much needed gym and activities space for the members of GTC.
The building will be temporary, and will be built behind the wall, thus preventing it from affecting the Landmark building (the Observatory), while providing functionality through its proximity to college and the student accommodations. Given the small size of our college site, this is the most feasible location.
The building will also be an opportunity for the college to expand its 'green thumb', by enabling us to trial solar panels on the roof and the use of biodegradable material.
Although the building is being built in the back of the yards of the Observatory Street Houses (which the college owns), there is still a sufficient among of yard left for tenants to enjoy, and the gym will also feature a child’s play area, which will allow parents and family an appropriate communal area to interact within.
The students have already raised over £15,000 in the past 6 months, to go towards this project, and have been involved in the process since the commencement of the building design.
