This is a petition to show support for the MLPA Map 2 as proposed by Workgroup 2 for presentation to the BRTF on October 21st in Long Beach.
If you plan on going to the beach anytime next year, THIS WILL AFFECT YOU. If you look at the maps in the first link below, all of the red areas represent a Marine Protected Area that has the possibility of being closed to not only fishing and boating, but also to surfing and even swimming!
There are 3 maps that will be proposed and Map 2 is the only map that that meets not only the SAT guidelines but also realistically considers the socio-economic impact of the MLPA's upon implementation. Furthermore, Map 2 is the ONLY map that considers the value and tradition that fishing has within the Southern California region while also addressing the environmental goals for which the MLPA Initiative was created. Should ANY map except Map 2 go into effect, many local businesses be destroyed, without any additional benefit to meeting the original MLPA goals.
