Ten Statements In Support
Of The Men Who Work In Network Services:

1. The essay in The Catalyst was unfair and one-sided.

2. The editor of the Catalyst should have included other points of view.

3. The men who work in network services are good at their jobs.

4. The men who work in network services work hard and have a workload that is greater than their work day.

5. Normal workplaces allow workers to take a break from their duties a couple times a day. Some workers choose to go outside for fresh air, or make a personal phone call, or take a mental break and play solitaire. Short breaks can be refreshing and increase overall productivity in the long run.

6. The main focus of their jobs is to maintain the colleges systems and computers, so when there are tasks to perform on college-owned equipment, those tasks must take priority.

7. No person is perfect, and it is not possible to always greet every person with a perfect smile and a tone of voice that can not be misinterpreted as unkind.

8. The men who work in network services are glad to help, but people who begin a conversation or a request for help with a demanding or angry tone often meet a similar tone in response.

9. Computers, servers, and networks are not perfect machines, and it is not reasonable to expect everything to always work perfectly. Anyone who owns a computer should have reasonable backup plans in place in case there is a problem, and shouldnt blame other people when unexpected computer problems arise.

10. The men who work in network services have a supervisor, and the right thing to do when you are dissatisfied any services provided to you is to speak to the supervisor before making a public statement against an entire department in a publication that is distributed to the entire community.
