As supporters of Wivenhoe May Fair, we are concerned to hear that May Fair 2007 will not be going ahead as expected.
The May Fair has been running for over 20 years and is one of the things that makes Wivenhoe such a unique place and attracts people from all over the UK every year for one day to have fun, enjoy live music and performances and raise money for charities.
There is very rarely any trouble (compared to other events on a similar scale) and it is remembered by many as a very special day.
We would like to express our dismay at this year's cancellation and ask for a guarantee that Wivenhoe Town Council will support the May Fair committee in running the event in the future, and if it is possible that 2007's May Fair could be reinstated in some way, or at least some (charitable) events could be held celebrating the huge array of talented musicians and performers that have connections with the area.

For me the Wivenhoe Fair marks the beginning of the summer festival season. It supports local bands which is a big plus in a time when live music is staged less and less often. I think it would be shameful for the fair to disappear b
