We the students of Boston College High School of Dorchester, Massachusetts, hereby unite in one voice to demand the return of personal backpacks during school hours.
We acknowledge the fact that all people make mistakes and that this year it has been our Administration who have made the bad judgments. The only way to completely make up for this grave miscalculation is to immediately allow backpacks to be worn once again.
We recognize that in no way does this new policy decrease theft at Boston College High School. In reality, theft and misplacement are much easier now due to an inability to keep track of all that must now be carried.
We understand that the supposed potential for injury to our spines is in no way helped by this policy seeing how we must still carry the excessive weight to and from school. While during the day we only require a fraction of the weight for a maximum of five minutes at a time.
We realize that getting to class on time is now extremely difficult this year due to an over-crowding in our halls as a direct result of the need to repeatedly return to lockers.
We understand that our democratically elected representatives did not approve this extreme measure and therefore constitutes a public outcry.
We acknowledge that it is our money that supports this institution and therefore it should be our voice that matters.
We pledge to work with the Administration once this policy is repealed to fix the problems of theft and tardiness.
In conclusion, for the sake of your students, please repeal the policy change that makes a simple backpack a Jugable offense.

Each student should be able to choose if he wants to risk his belongings being stolen. Holding books doesn't make the halls less dense because students are all at their lockers, making the halls too crowded.
