We had to leave Sri Lanka because of the death threats we had received, dangers we faced from the Sri Lankan government & the dangers that we faced from employees who were members of a terrorist organization without my knowledge (these employees subsequently believed that I had exposed them to the authorities & our lives came under threat).
Because of civil war in Sri Lanka, for the past 25 years, many ordinary people live in great fear from these threats.
The Sri Lankan Government is working on removing the terrorism threat & because of the decisions they are making anyone whom the authorities or the government suspects of being involved with, or helping, the terrorists are liable to be arrested by the police or army в because many bad decisions are being made many have been falsely arrested (sinhalese, tamils, muslims etc) & many others live in fear.
в March 6th 2008 THE HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH filed a 241 page report вRecurring Nightmare: State Responsibility for вDisappearancesв & Abductions in Sri Lankaв (available on line at hrw.org/english/docs/2008/03/06/slanka18203.htm)
Elaine Pearson (deputy Asia director at Human Rights Watch) вPresident Mahinda Rajapaksa, once a rights advocate, has now led his government to become one of the worldвs worst perpetrators of enforced disappearances.в
в April 6th 2008 THE INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY published a two page report on the situation in Sri Lanka (part of the report can be read online at http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/sri-lankas-disappeared-gang-demands-tamil-exiles-pay-ransom-for-kidnapped-relatives-805256.html)
We are afraid that if we return we are liable to revenge from either the authorities or from the terrorist groups because they believe we exposed their activities.
We have been refused by the Home Office because our story was not accepted & that it was believed that if we returned they would be no real risk to our lives. However, both THE HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH & THE INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY state there are genuine risks & document numerous cases of abductions, sudden disappearances & killings.
We know from personal experience how dangerous the situation is in Sri Lanka & if we return we fear death threats & attempts on our lives.
The reason we are asking you to support our campaign is to protect our lives as we are afraid that if we return we will be killed.
So I kindly request you support our campaign & agree that
