Why is it that when a child speaks out or voices an opinion, it is ignored? A prime example of a childs voice not being heard is during a custody battle. Often, the situation is drug out much longer then necessary. Why is this? Because too many people feel a child themselves does not know what is best for them. Let me give you an example: A child decides he/she wants to live with his/her Mom, not Father. The child provides reasons as to how he/she made his/her choice and the judicial system ignores it. They brush it off as the child rebelling or some other temporary issue such as parent alienation. Think about it, if a child does not want to go to one parents home, there is definitely a reason for it! When a child reaches the age of 14 they are old enough to get a drivers license as well as a job, therefore they are clearly old enough to determine what they want in life, even if that means choosing one parent over the other.
