PETITION
TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS

We, the undersigned residents of Canada, draw to the attention of the House the following:

That by campaigning under one banner and affiliation during the term the Member for London-Fanshawe (Pat OBrien) has not fulfilled his obligation to his constituents;

That by taking such an action, the member has disregarded the initial will and intent of those who chose to cast their vote for the Liberal Party in the London-Fanshawe Riding;

That by changing affiliation, the member has damaged the integrity of the electoral process and alienated a number of voters in the region who cast their votes under currently false pretenses;

Therefore, your petitioners call upon the Member for London-Fanshawe (Pat OBrien) to resign his position as MP for London-Fanshawe and petition the Right Honourable Prime Minister and the House of Commons to issue a writ for a by-election in the riding, so that the true will and intent of the ridings voters can be heard, allowing the member (Pat OBrien) to seek re-election based on his current position and affiliation.

Therefore your petitioners also call upon the House of Commons to swiftly enact legislation to require a by-election in any riding where in the duly elected member changes political affiliations during their term.

129. Rebecca B | City, Province London, Ontario In our electoral system, many voters choose parties when they select MPs. What this points towards most keenly is the need for electoral reform, towards a system of proportional representation.
