Town of Washington/Master Plan

Did you know the Town of Washington is at work updating our Master Plan? A Master Plan provides the template for the communitys future. A Master Plan can cover a broad range of issues from zoning law to incentives for business development to environmental priorities.
With increased growth and development pressures exerted on communities, an effective Master Planning process should be open and inclusive, reaching out to the public for its input and expertise. In contrast, our Town leaders have proposed a committee to guide this planning process that does not reflect a cross-section of the community. It has been selected quietly, without public involvement and knowledge. It includes no credentialed experts: No planners, environmental engineers, or scientists.
We believe this all-important committee MUST reflect the diversity and range of concerns of all the residents of the Town of Washington.
As constituents, the undersigned residents and property owners in the Town of Washington petition our Town leaders to ensure that the Master Plan committee is a balanced reflection of our entire community. They should make a point of including on the committee professionals from local institutions such as IES, the Cornell University Extension Services, the Dutchess Land Conservancy, Hudsonia and the Rockefeller University Field Research Center. We are asking that our Town leaders actively take steps to ensure that the Master Plan committee is a balanced reflection of our entire community and that the process is open and inclusive so that those of us who live in and love the Town of Washington will have a say in its future.
