UAE Equal Treatment

To His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,

We, the residents of the UAE, kindly request a review of the current laws concerning the celebration of national holidays, particularly Islamic ones.

The current system, which is completely unfair and goes against the principle of equality of all Muslims within Islam itself, discriminates between private and public sector workers and the way they observe Muslim holidays.

With the majority of the UAE population being Muslim according to official figures, this means that workers in both sectors throughout the country would observe and celebrate Islamic holidays. The whole notion of religious holidays is tied into faith and not race. More importantly, workers in both sectors contribute to the future of the UAE and to the country's development. Therefore, it would be great to show both sides the equal amount of respect in terms of the way they are treated and regarded.
