Wonderfalls On DVD

Are we so entrenched in a 30 minute world of bad one-liners and people eating baby pig testicles that quality programming gets the proverbial shaft? Such is the case with the cancellation of Fox's 'Wonderfalls', the most inventive show to come down the pipe in years. Television has gone rediculously downhill not just in the past few years, but in the past few decades as well. Staples like "All In The Family" and "M*A*S*H*" would never make it in today's TV market and we would be without truly classic television. 'Wonderfalls' was one of those shows and in the hearts of many, will continue to be.

All it takes to realize this is a hop and skip over to eBay to see shirts, bags, and props selling for hundreds upon hundreds of dollars. Continue hopping and skipping to message boards, fan sites, and the like. People watch the show and quickly fall for it.

From Exec. Producer Tim Minear:

"[There's]not really anything you can do. The network is a non-starter here. The studio, 20th, is possibly a different matter. If they get the sense that people would buy a complete series DVD set, it might happen that the series becomes available in future. But please don't waste your time or money on trying to revive 'Wonderfalls' for a pick-up with FOX. Ain't gonna happen."

Case in point: 'Tru Calling' pulls a 1.3 share on a good night with poor reviews while 'Wonderfalls' pulls in triple the points with glowing reviews...and 'Tru Calling' is spared. Something stinks and it ain't the bodies in the poorly-lit morgue.

What truly frightens us the most is what the cancellation of a show like this means. It's a big, juicy metaphoric example of the mindlessness of the Now-Television viewer where everything has to be pre-packaged, pre-destined, and pedestrian. It turns our collective stomachs.

Heeding Mr. Minear's advice, this petition is not to revive 'Wonderfalls' on a weekly televised basis, but to put the episodes to DVD. Nine episodes sit at Fox, doing nothing but building a fine sheen of dust. Fox is sitting on gold, they just need to realize it. Such was the case with 'Family Guy', such can be the case with 'Wonderfalls'.

Fox, with this petition, we strongly urge you to consider releasing the complete 'Wonderfalls' series on DVD, for the fans of the show and for the people who will become quickly converted. Think of this petition as your own talking cow creamer, stuffed frog, or deformed wax lion. Do the right thing.

It's up to you.
