Woodrow Wilson Sweethearts

As many of you know, the Woodrow Wilson Sweethearts have been a continuing and historic tradition for almost 50 years! Their timeless Crimson uniform is truly a unique piece that has allowed them to stand out amongst the drill teams in the Dallas area and even across all of Texas! Year after year, they've worn their dazzling top hats and white gloves to their fitted Grey jackets and boots with red tassels. And of course, who could forget those signature petticoats! Any Sweetheart Alumni would agree that during their many performances they've always worn their uniform with pride. The Sweetheart tradition is very special to many families who have passed it down from generation to generation; grandmothers, mothers, daughters and sisters. It is remarkable that no matter how far back the uniform goes, it is identical to the one worn in recent years.

The Sweetheart pep rally and half time performances are one of Woodrow's leading attractions and what many people anticipate. Pep rallies have always been exciting, as the crowd claps and cheers on the Sweethearts' aisle routine entry and give petticoat fluffs for good luck. Many Alumni and future Alumni of all ages come to the football games to watch the "Half Time Extravaganza". Each performance is full of prancing, signature Sweetheart moves and kick-line, and ended by forming their famous symbol: the Sweetheart.

As of this year our beloved Sweethearts have once again gone under new direction and there have been a few changes to our special traditions. The new director is a dance teacher with plenty of dance background and is teaching the girls more discipline and improving their kicks, which is admirable. However, she has not yet incorporated any of the ongoing traditions to pep rallies and half time performances. They have not pranced, performed aisle routines or any of their famous moves, and have left out the forming of the Sweetheart to conclude each halftime. There have also been minor changes to the uniform and have they begun performing in jazz pants, halter tops and jazz shoes during pep rallies. She has also been incorporating a lot more jazz moves into the routines rather than the traditional Sweetheart moves. This petition was not made to threaten the new director, but rather to help her understand how important it is to support this tradition that has been so dear to our hearts for generations.

Please fill out this petition in support of keeping the Sweetheart tradition alive. Comments and feedback are also welcome, but please refrain from being negative or profane. This is strictly to improve and move forward in a positive way. Thanks

As the saying goes... "Once a Sweetheart, always a Sweetheart!"
