XM Liquid Metal And Sirius Hard Attack Playlist Expansion
Sign Now
By signing this petition, you agree that the Sirius "Hard Attack" and XM "Liquid Metal" channels have a severely limited playlist. It is understood that the record labels have a good amount of power over what gets played on these stations, and that this will not change. However, if enough people sign this petition, it may be enough to get them to expand their playlists.
As they stand currently, these stations play an absurd amount of the popular metalcore genres, as well as a good amount of nu-metal (including bands like Korn, Deftones, and (Hed) PE, that are distinctly not in the realm of metal), new releases for a limited amount of time, and long-standing legends (Sepultura, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Judas Priest, Testament et. al). In such a state, the station is not enough to discourage from bringing CD's or other music, or even from changing the station within the receiver.
While these things are expected to be in a playlist of a popular metal station, a great variety of metal goes unheard and unplayed on these stations. There are many different kinds of metal that are vastly underrepresented on these stations:
Death Metal (outside of Cannibal Corpse, very little of this is played if it's not new)
Power Metal (essentially anything not named DragonForce is avoided)
Progressive Metal (with the exception of Dream Theater and occasionally Symphony X, this is avoided)
Doom/Drone Metal (there are many great bands to be had here, like My Dying Bride, Sunn O))), Wall Of Sleep, Anathema...)
Avantgarde Metal (bands like Scholomance and Unexpect are never played)
Black Metal (these are almost never played, save for in specialized programs)
By signing this petition, you are joining me in asking that these stations expand their playlist to the point at which they will keep the listener interested and discourage them from bringing their own CD's in a car. The ultimate goal of a station should be to keep the listener entrenched in it for as long as possible, and by expanding their playlist, these stations would do well to achieve this goal.
