As concerned parents, taxpayers, and residents of the Pottsgrove School District, we are disheartened by the current teacher contract negotiations. We hope things will be resolved in a timely manner once the Pottsgrove Federation of Teachers recognizes the burden their demands are placing on our community.
Teachers are an invaluable resource, essential to helping our children develop into the very best they can be. They are worth every cent they are paid. However, the School District has an obligation to provide the highest quality of education to our children while effectively balancing the financial needs of the taxpayers.
We believe the contract proposals presented by the School Board offer fair, adequate compensation to the teachers, and include an attractive benefit package. The language changes requested by the Board, intended to ensure the safety of our children, accurately reflect the reality of our world today.
While many of us were hesitant to voice our opinions for fear that the teachers would hold a grudge against our children, the time has come to put that fear behind us - and let our voices be heard.
By signing this petition, we pledge our support to the Pottsgrove School Board during their contract negotiations with the Pottsgrove Federation of Teachers. While we all want to see the students return to school, we do NOT believe the Board should compromise its position for the simple sake of bringing this matter to a close.
