On Febuary 13th, in the year 2006, a young man named Tyler Clay Blauser celebrated his 16th birthday among family and friends. On the verge of adulthood, Tyler looked forward to the life before him with a smile on his face and a gleam in his eye. He had dreams, as most boys do, of playing for the NFL and pursuing a career in federal law enforcement. Tyler took to life as he took to the playing field...always giving his best and quick to help those who fell behind. On March 9th of 2006, his life was tragically and unjustly ended by the grave indifference of another young man, whom he called 'a friend', and the young man's mother, whom he often affectionately referred to as 'mom'.
On that fateful night, Tyler's friend, being a 16 year old unlicensed and uninsured driver of a motor vehicle, proceeded to, with reckless indifference to the lives of his passengers and despite their protests, including Tyler's, drive the vehicle at excessive speeds under hazardous road conditions. Less than one block from the safety of his home and his waiting family, Tyler was ejected from the rear passenger seat and flung headfirst into a tree. He suffered massive head trauma. A kind motorist, who witnessed the accident, held Tyler and prayed over him as a soft March rain washed his blood down the pavement. Tyler's life...his childhood memories, his love for family and friends, his future, his dreams...slipped from him.
As Tyler lay broken and dying on the road, the driver, his 'friend' of so many years, was busy trying to convince another passenger, a 15 year old girl, to take the blame for him. He did not then, nor has he ever, expressed any remorse over causing Tyler's death. In fact, until a recent court order forbiding it, he continued to drive up and down Tyler's parent's street as a form of harassment. Additionally, his mother, who purchased the vehicle for her unlicenced and uninsured teenage son, and who condoned his driving, has not expressed any remorse. The driver has been charged with manslaughter and the mother has been charged with facilitating manslaughter.
The purpose of this petition is to force the law making bodies, the courts, parents, teenagers and the community at large, to hold accountable underage, unlicensed and uninsured teenage drivers, as well as those parents which knowingly permit it, for the consequences of their reckless indifference to human life. It is our hope, being the family and friends of Tyler, to bring justice in Tyler's death and to raise awareness, among teens and their parents, so that other children will not suffer the same fate and Tyler's death will not be in vain. We ask...what if this were your child? We thank you for your support.
