We, the undersigned are submitting this petition to abolish two archaic forms euthanasia practiced in many Southern states within the United States. Not only are these forms of animal destruction inhumane, but can easily be replaced with more acceptable forms of painless termination. Moreover, the need for destroying newborn puppies can be remedied by simple pet-owner responsibility through spaying, neutering, or even early-term abortion of litters. The two forms of animal destruction of which we speak are commonly known as Drowning and Knocking-in-the-Head. The drowning practice is usually carried out by placing unwanted newborn puppies, kittens, etc. within a burlap sac, a fabric bag, or even common garbage bag. This bag is then tied off, weighted with a rock, and the bag of live animals is then submerged or thrown into a large vat of water, lake, pond, or river. The second form of euthanasia we are addressing is the aforementioned Knocking-in-the-Head. For this form of animal termination, the owner of the puppies will take the hind legs of the puppy or kitten into one hand, pull his/her arm back in a throwing manner, and slam the back of the puppys head or temporal regions into a tree, log, or other stable, blunt object. Although the act usually results in immediate death, it will sometimes take several blows to cause complete cessation of life. Moreover, some owners continue to use both forms of destruction far after the newborn stage of the animal, and may continue either form weeks into the puppy or kittens existence. Some have been known to use either method even after the puppy or kittens eyes have opened. It is our request that the signatures supplied by the readers of this petition will convince law makers nationwide to call for a legally-binding ban on both of these misanthropic animal destruction methods. Therefore, if one wishes to convey to his/her senator, governor, or other legislator that he or she disapproves of this practices, and wishes to see a subsequent law passed to make such acts illegal, that person should please sign the petition immediately.
