Black Unity in Norfolk

For the first time since the modern use of the ward system in Norfolk, no Black Councilperson is facing opposition. We believe that this presents a perfect opportunity to focus attention on the needs and priorities of Black citizens and businesses in Norfolk. We also believe this good fortune provides the opportunity to focus attention on candidates in other races to insure there is greater support amongst all Council members regarding the quality of life of Blacks in Norfolk.

We are calling on you to put aside any personal or political differences you may have with one another and unify your efforts toward the benefit of Blacks in Norfolk and indeed all Norfolk citizens.

The housing and economic boom in Norfolk is leaving far too many of your neighborhoods behind. Despite its recent recognition, Norfolk Public Schools has tremendous strides to make before it can state it offers a world-class education for ALL students. The Norfolk Redevelopment & Housing Authority continues to receive funds on behalf of our communities while failing to plan WITH our communities. And the economic development needs of our communities remain in dire a situation.

We ask that you leave the differences of the past behind you and focus your attention on the needs of your constituents that are in front of you. And we want those needs addressed in a spirit of togetherness!

We consider ourselves the owner and head coach of "the team." And we demand that all of our players work from the same playbook even as their roles are different.

There is no "i" in "team."
