Block A Halfway House For Serious Mentally Ill Patients From Developing in Ewa Gentry

A single family residential home in The Carriages section of Ewa Gentry (91-1001 Niolo Street) was recently purchased with HUD 811 Funds by Mental Health Kokua with the purpose of being transformed into a halfway house for patients with SERIOUS mental illness to include SCHIZOPHRENIA, BIPOLAR DISORDER and Depression. The patients are expected to live in the home for a period of 4-6 months and will only be SEMI-SUPERVISED 8-16 hours a day.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens and residents of Ewa Gentry who urge our leaders to act now to:
1. Apply whatever legal or political pressure necessary to prevent this home or other future homes like it from developing in Ewa Gentry.
2. Have our Ewa by Gentry Community Association live up to their published stated mission, To protect and maintain property values, to enrich the quality of life for homeowners and residents, and to enhance the vibrancy of the community. Many of us have young children and we chose to live in Ewa Gentry specifically because of the strict Declaration of Covenants Conditions and Restrictions (DCCRs) which we all agreed to abide and live by when we purchased our homes. We want to live in a community with strict DCCRs to ensure us a level of safety and security for our families. Having a home with a concentration of patients with SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESS in our community we feel is a grave threat to our level of safety and security within our community and it breaks many of the Rules and Covenants contained within the DCCRs that we all agreed to when we made the decision to move into Ewa Gentry.
