Carling Weekend Secondary Barrier Petition

Dear Sirs,

After attending the Reading Festival of many years we have personally witnessed some acts of destruction and acts which have put peoples personal safety in danger, from throwing gas canisters onto fires to vicious rioting which has not only put people at risk but also expensive equipment which belongs to you as the promoter.

Your plans for a gas canister exchange and extra security this year are in our opinions much needed and will bring more peace of mind to both people who have attended before and people who are going for the first time.

The new second barrier however we believe is a poor idea which will cause a lot more trouble than it will prevent, At Ozzfest 2002 at Donnington a second barrier was put in place which caused many injuries and also a lot of anger among the fans who could see people inside the front area simply sitting around while people who were huge fans of the band that were on were forced to stand very far back.

We can of course see the safety issue of people getting crushed against the front barrier however over the course of 3 days many people are going to get upset and fed up with not being able to get to the front to see their favourite bands.

Reading is the highlight of most of our calendars and we expect to be protected from dangerous behaviour or injury especially after paying 130 for a ticket, people should also be free to get a good view of the band they want to see.
