Changes in California "Goped" Laws

We are the riders of motorized scooters that live in California. We have noticed a new law that has been made for us to be unable to ride unless we have a permit/license, that we are 16 or over, and that we have to have stock settings on our scooters. That law says that we have to have all of these requirements filled or we cannot ride at all. These laws have a consequence that states, we can have our scooters impounded and a big fine. Many teens and others ride these scooters to work or to have fun or transportation and it is a really big deal to us that have to do one of those things mentioned. I have found that they are a big saver on gasoline and it doesn't pollute as much as a car. Many people who have scooters use them since "we" cannot get a permit or license since it cost money. It's not fair to the ones who cannot get these requirements since they might not have the money or have age requirements. You could by chance keep the age requirements but change the permit/license part since not all of us can get one. The law has been the same for so many years and there hasnt been a problem with it, but then it goes and has been changed again. We would like to continue riding these motor vehicles without someone suspecting us to cause a major accident. If you have heard of a accident caused by this product, dont take it out on all of the riders out there.

Banning gopeds instead of trying to enforce the existing laws would be a mistake. Many people would be very unhappy if any such law is enacted, in any state.

I heard on the news that police cars get 6mpg, a goped gets 50mpg+... why the hell wouldn't you want these out on the street? + less emissions.

I definetly agree 100\% with this petition. The age requirements I think should be lowered to 15 years of age. But you have to understand, that these scooters are transportaion to some and fun to others.

I swear, if the bicycle were invented yesterday, somebody would want to ban them tomarrow. Let these kids ride what they want. You would be suprised, if you visit Gopednation.com, how sharp these kids are getting because they are interested in something.-
