Decatur Township Elementary School Parties

At this time Decatur Township has decided to do away with the annual fall party of each elementary school. The Christmas/Winter and Valentines parties just might be on the chopping block as well. As a once young child and now parent I am asking we take a stand against this!!!! Kids are only young once. They work so hard everyday. The parties are a reward for their hard work. While schools should respect all religious beliefs, banning parties is not necessary. Any non lesson classroom time helps a child's social development. Something that was stressed necessary by our towship administraitors when discussing our redistricting. These parties are not a religious service, it's a social gathering. Teachers and administration as well as a student's parents should agree not only on the child's education, but also on the child's social development. After all, most kids will spend about 12 yrs. of their pre-college lives in school, and socialization is inevitable during that time. As responsible adults, we should be able to come up with a compromise. Sending home permission slips, introducing cultural histories. What are some of your favorite memories of Autumn when you were attending school? If you're like many people, you'll mention the fall party near the top of the list! :)
