Demand a Realistic, Respectful G.I. Joe Live-Action Film

As many people know, Paramount and Lorenzo di Bonaventura are currently attempting to produce a live-action film adaptation of the G.I. Joe property. It has come to the attention of the property's large fan community that di Bonaventura may not be treating the film project with a sufficient level of respect. Where G.I. Joe entered the world as a loving homage to the bravest and most elite men and women of the armed forces, the direction the producers are pushing the movie in is that of a cheesy, cliche, sci-fi B-movie. We find this unacceptable because:
1. It violates the original concept of G.I. Joe as realistic American military heroes, which was how the property was introduced in 1964.
2. It fundementally alters key elements of writer Larry Hamas classic comic book series and character biographies that relaunched the G.I. Joe mythos to massive succcess in 1982.
3. There is an undeniable possibility that releasing such an outlandish film could irrepairably damage the public image of the G.I. Joe name. That same image which we fans have grown up with and continue to cherish and enjoy today.
We demand that those individuals that have been awarded the task of bringing G.I. Joe to the silver screen treat it with dignity. We will accept science-fiction elements in the film as they have precedent in the Real American Hero era of G.I. Joe, but only if they are elements of a mostly realistic U.S. Special Forces VS. Terrorists plot.
If you are one of the millions of people that have enjoyed the comics, collected the 12 inch or 3 3/4 inch figures, or simply remember assaulting your living room with your favorite childhood G.I. Joe, please take the time to sign this pettition.

If a GI Joe Movie should be done, it should be produced, written & directed with respect to the Marvel series created by Larry Hama. A reason a lot of Marvel's films succeed big time in the box-office is because the studios that produced the said film

If Bonaventura wants to call this Action Man, I want him to visit a veteran's hospital and tell them calling a movie "GI Joe" would just be too patriotic and might offend "international sensibilities"

If you want to dump on your fan base, your fan base should dump on you in return. Leave GI JOE to those who know and revere it, and let the MBNA bean counters find some other way to maxmise profits.
